Forgotten God

Here’s a recommendation to read Forgotten God: Reversing Our Tragic Neglect of the Holy Spirit by Francis Chan:

It’s a simple, straightforward book that fires straight into your heart. Francis’ way of cutting through our excuses and asking us point blank, in a manner that demands a mere “yes” or “no” presses us to make room for the Spirit to lead us in our every day. And though the insights weren’t new, the urgency with which he writes is — and it demands movement and action. It’s a great wake up call, and definitely worth the two or three hours needed to read this short book.

I hope this doesn’t spoil anything, but here’s the best quote of the book:

I think a lot of us need to forget about God’s will for my life. God cares more about our response to His Spirit’s leading today, in this moment, than about what we intend to do next year. In fact, the decisions we make next year will be profoundly affected by the degree to which we submit to the Spirit right now, in today’s decisions.

Amen.

  3. This book was a Christmas gift, loved it. Just finished reading Crazy Love recently. Hope he writes more, like what he is up to now and his journey to whatever he will do next.

  4. dear p. james,

i was at the passion for the nations conference last weekend, and i wanted to say thanks. i was convicted by your message on the Big Story so i bought the book and finished it yesterday. :) thank you for sharing your insights into the truly good news of the gospel of Jesus… it was exactly what i needed to hear as i’ve been struggling to share the gospel–even though i’m part of the pastoral staff! now i can’t wait to share the true story of Christ’s message!

also, thank you for the article you wrote on women in ministry. this is also an issue i’ve been struggling with recently as i am one of them, but your article brought refreshment, encouragement, and freedom to be and do what God has called me to be and do!

anyway, thanks again for sharing what God’s shared with you and for blessing us all with it! also, cheers on being a fellow gcts alum!

Just this morning I read your posting here in Vientiane, Laos, while virtually as I write Francis is speaking in nearby Bangkok. That’s what happens when I plan my schedule by “winging it”. May in some small way God use me here to touch someone’s life.
