The Inner Game of Tennis

By W. Timothy Gallwey

The Inner Game of Tennis

April 27, 2007

I read the first paperback edition. The main emphasis is to learn by watching and then letting your body do it, instead of correcting yourself with criticisms. Just be aware of your actions, and let yourself do it without critique or judgment. It’s quite powerful, and has much to teach us not only in tennis, but in life in general. But the author overreaches and tries to take his New Age-y ideas into life, and that’s when the book becomes a bit hokey.

Skip the last four chapters, and you’ll have a great volume to help with your mental game, both in tennis and in life.
