The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game
By Michael Lewis
February 9, 2010
I haven’t seen the movie. But after reading this book, I don’t think I really want to. It’s that well written. Michael Lewis can tell a story, but he does it with wit and a poignant eye to the race and class distinctions in America, particularly in Memphis. He’s fair, showing you the good, the bad, and the human sides of all involved, and how faith and opportunity mix to lift an unnaturally gifted athlete out of the ‘hood. Plus, you get a fun history of strategies in the NFL. Human interest plus football — what’s there not to like?
It’s fantastic reading, even if you don’t like football, and I don’t want to ruin it with whatever Hollywood conjured up.
