This is the book that I once attempted to write, but so, so much better. From his experience as a top-notch leadership coach, he has identified twenty bad habits that leaders do to shoot themselves in the foot. None of them have to do with skills or talents. All of them have to do with interpersonal dynamics, because he believes that at if you got to this level, you have the chops. You just don’t know how to best work with the people around you.
Brilliant.
I’ve seen too many people go down, not because of a lack of skills, talent, or creativity, but because they had no idea how to work with others — especially with the people under their charge.
He may be overly optimistic in how much people can change. Then again, he only takes clients who are willing to change, so he’s hedging his bets. And he doesn’t go into the root causes of why people act the way they do. But he can give practical tips on how to stop doing stupid things so that they can get along with the people that work with.
Seriously. All leaders should read this one.
