Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed

Diamond’s main point — that how a civilization treats its environment is a significant factor in its vitality and survival — is of the utmost relevance for today. This book reads like a textbook, although a good one. It is a powerful encyclopedia of the dire consequences of ignoring the environment to support our own lifestyles. But it is repetitive and at 525 pages, this book is in dire need of an editor.
My suggestion: just skim for main points. Like walking through the palace at Versailles, you’ll be amazed at its grandeur but you’re not going to remember every ornate detail.
