This book couldn’t have come at a better time. It’s definitely written for those who are in full-time ministry. (Even that’s a tough term to use. I can’t say “full-time minister” to talk about one type of Christian because we all are, and I can’t write “clergy” because then I’m implying a “laity” which isn’t helpful since we are the “priesthood of all believers.” But you get the picture.)

Peterson walks through the book of Jonah and strips away the illusions or rationalizations we have about ministry as a profession, and calls us to something deeper and far more spiritual. He pulls no punches, and calls us to lead something that isn’t coopted by culture, but something more glorious and ultimately something that will honor God. It’s a call away from Tarshish ministry, and an invitation to Nineveh.

The book’s particularly helpful for people who’ve been professional ministers for a while, giving us a much-needed hit on the reset button so that we can regain some perspective.
