Perhaps it’s my InterVarsity background, but Peterson didn’t seem to be offering anything new until the last couple of chapters. His constant refrain — eat this book! — is a reminder not merely to glean the pages for biblical trivia, but to allow the words to transform us. And Peterson does it with vivid language that makes it pop.
The last two chapters, however, of the archeological discoveries that have affected biblical interpretation, and how he came to write The Message.
But it’s a great reminder to let the living Word of God change us through the written word of God.
