Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith

OK. I’ve officially jumped on the bandwagon. I’m now a Rob Bell fan.

Seriously, this book is a brilliant repainting of the Christian faith and will connect with younger readers today. He absolutely shines when he uncovers the hooks of Jesus’ time and culture, helping the reader hear his most famous statements in a fresh, new way. The historical background actually sounds almost too good to be true — I definitely want to start researching the facts myself.

But if they are true, then this book is stocked full of insight into the words of Jesus. With his straight-shooter tone, Bell-as-tour-guide transports the reader back to the 1st century and then back again to the present — and along the way, the faith feels more relevant than ever.
