Gardner surveys 20th century leaders who’ve had a large impact — whether for good or for bad. His thesis is interesting: great leaders can tell their story well and embody that message. In other words, they can talk the talk, and then walk the walk. It’s not rocket science, but quite effective.
For me, it was great to get to know some of these world leaders through chapter-length biographies. I didn’t know the impact of people like Margaret Mead, Eleanor Roosevelt or Alfred Sloan Jr., and I learned more about people like Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. It’s a fun read, and can give some clues about how to leave a lasting legacy on this planet.
